The Location:

Your home for the week will be one of several modest apartment dwellings scattered throughout this quiet fishing village, and your studio will be the historic Torre di Cetara where you will convene for writing and painting workshops. The Vicereale Tower dates back to the 16th century, a veritable sentinel and look out for pirate raids in days of yore. Also the home of a civic museum and local artist gallery, this Castle on the Tyrannean sea boasts an array of indoor spaces and outdoor terraces sure inspire.

The Workshops:

Daily Generative Writing Workshops co-facilitated by Kathy and Pat are intended to support and encourage you in digging deep and opening yourself up to get words onto the page. Through prompts and other writing exercises both in the Torre di Cetara and on field trips, students will be encouraged to come out of their comfort zone to explore new surroundings for inspiration. Yoga, Meditation and Breath Practice with Angela and Painting and Drawing instruction with Bill are additional tools provided to help. (In addition to the group activities, students with more experience or a lack of experience as writers will be able to schedule individual one-to-one instruction sessions with Kathy and/or Pat based on your individuals needs.)

Tuition for the week is $4650 (previous Key to the Castle Workshop participants, and/or students of Pat, Kathy, Bill or Angela, are eligible to receive a 10% discount on tuition.)

Sample Itinerary:

Saturday, October 19th:

• Arrival Day, settling in to accommodations

• 7:00pm Welcome Dinner

Sunday, October 20th:

• Morning: Yoga followed by Breakfast at Chocolami & Walking Tour and Orientation in Town

• Early Afternoon: Lunch on own and free time

• Late Afternoon: Art Session al Fresco

• Evening: Group Dinner at Local Restaurant

Mon 10/21, Wed 10/23, Fri 10/25:

• Morning: Breakfast @ Chocolami followed by Writing Workshop @ Torre di Cetara

• Lunch on your own free time

• Afternoon: Art Session @ Torre di Cetara

• Evening: Group Dinner at local Restaurant (on Friday 10/25 there will be an exhibition and student reading at Torre di Cetara followed by closing ceremony and group dinner)

• Yoga: All writing & art sessions will begin with a 10 minute meditation/Yoga practice. There will also be full Yoga classes in the early afternoon and Yoga Nidra after dinner (these classes are optional)

Tue 10/22 & Thu 10/24 are field trip days:

• Morning: Breakfast @ Chocolami followed by field trip Writing Workshop & Art Session will take place onsite at the field trip locations (locations to be confirmed)*

• Lunch: Group lunches on field trip days

• Dinners are on your own after returning to Cetara on field trip days

• * In past years field trip locations have included Paestum and Ravello

• Departures by 11am

• Seven nights single occupancy lodging** check-in on Sat. 10/19 and check-out on Sat 10/26

• Two (2) Field trips transportation, admission and group lunch included

• Five (5) Days - Mon. 10/21 -Fri. 10/25 Writing & Painting/Pastels Workshops - writing journals, watercolor kit and pastels**** with a block of the famous Amatruda (Amalfi paper) produced in Amalfi using the same sustainable methods today as were used back in the 1600’s.

• Daily Group Yoga Sun. 10/20 through Fri. 10/25 with Angela.

• A one hour one-to-one meeting with Pat or Kathy to discuss and/or get feedback on up to fifty (50) pages of your writing project.

• Participation in closing reception - exhibition of your art and reading/storytelling.

Please note: Airfare and/or Trainfare are not included in tuition. Ground transportation from and back to either Salerno Train Station or Naples Airport can be arranged, please inquire.

**For an additional fee of $2500 you may bring an adult guest who will be able to lodge with you and participate in all group meals, attend both field trips and all Yoga classes. If your guest requires their own separate bedroom, the fee will be $3000 for your guest.

***Lunch is on your own except on field trip days. And on field trip days you are free at night for dinner on your own.

****More experienced artists may bring (or request Bill to provide at an additional fee) other materials if they choose to work in oils or a larger selection of water colors/ pastels.

Payment Schedule:

• Application Fee: $50 (non-refundable and deducted from final tuition)

• 50% deposit due upon acceptance to secure your spot.
